Albie Donnelly’s Supercharge live in Germany and post gig meets Blowout Sax’s very own ace student Tom Ginns
ALBIE DONNELLY, Liverpool- born singer/saxophonist and bandleader began his career in London as a session musician playing on recordings by Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats on ‘Rattrap,’ Graham Parker and many others.
In 1973 he formed the now legendary band SUPERCHARGE. The band’s blend of R. ‘n’ B. and Funk plus their wild on- (and off!) stage-show made them a sensation on the British 70’s live- club scene.
In the 80’s the band signed with Virgin Records and toured extensively in GB and all over Europe with such names as Ray Charles, Fats Domino, B. B. King, Chuck Berry and Queen – culminating in the Hyde Park concert in front of more than 100,000 people.
From then on ALBIE has led successful tours all over Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, France, Poland, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland) and recently back home again in GB, confirming the bandleaders consistent popularity.
His soulful voice and unique horn-sound attest to his R ‘n’ B. roots and his being steeped in the music of the all-time greats
Quote from B. B. King: “SUPERCHARGE is Europe’s finest Rhythm ‘n’ Blues Band.”
And there was Ernie holding a silver sax on this show? Why who knows they didn’t show the sketch!

One of the many things that sets Blowout Sax apart from other forms of instrumental tuition is the performance aspect.
At every Blowout gig there are in excess of 60 plus enthusiastic students showing off their new found skills in a very professionally organised performance.
The backing band is always made up of top Bristol session musicians and the band is run by the incredible talent of top American sax man and long-time Blowout Sax stalwart Craig Crofton.
“Students will be playing pop, blues, soul, and some ska/reggae. It’s classic party tunes, basically, from One Step Beyond to Baker Street, Local Hero’s Goin’ Home,Pick Up The Pieces it’ll all be there ” says Mark. “We’re giving people the experience of playing live; it gives learning a focus, a goal. This the 18th year of this gig and always been a sell out.’
This time we are also introducing some original House and Mark Archer penned reggae songs with students own solos too.
